Vacuum casting process capability

XProdLab provides vacuum casting and silicone molding for R&D, procurement, prototype and low-volume teams. Services cover master patterns, silicone molds, PU resin casting and finishing for appearance samples, functional prototypes, market-test parts and 10-200 piece pilot builds before injection molding.

Vacuum replica master mold production, supporting 3D printing or CNC machining for opening silicone molds

Master Pattern

The quality of the master mold directly determines the appearance, size and detail restoration of the vacuum replica. XProdLab can choose from SLA 3D printing, CNC machining or post-processing finishing methods to create master molds based on customer drawings, appearance grade and assembly requirements.

The engineering team will focus on evaluating surface texture, parting lines, undercut structures, thin-wall risks and the feasibility of subsequent silicone mold opening to reduce bubbles, burrs, shrinkage and batch deviations, and establish a stable foundation for small batch replication.

Silicone mold production and parting design, supporting complex structures and multi-cavity pouring

Silicone mold development

Silicone molds are suitable for small batch reproduction of 10-200 pieces with lower mold opening costs and shorter cycle times. We will combine part structure planning with parting, gate, venting and insert positioning plans to improve demoulding stability and batch consistency.

For transparent parts, exterior parts, soft plastic parts or complex curved parts, engineers will determine the mold life, local deformation, bubble accumulation and post-processing allowance in advance to help customers reduce the risk of trial production rework.

PU resin vacuum casting molding supports transparent, tough, high temperature resistant and other material systems

PU resin vacuum casting

PU resin vacuum casting can simulate the effects of different materials such as ABS, PC, PMMA, PP, POM, PA, silicone and soft rubber, and is suitable for customers to verify the appearance texture, assembly feel, transparency, toughness and temperature resistance before mass production.

The production process focuses on controlling vacuum degassing, pouring temperature, curing cycle, shrinkage deformation and color consistency, and can be combined with spraying, screen printing, polishing, dyeing and other post-processing to achieve a delivery effect closer to that of injection molded parts.

Commonly used materials for vacuum casting

Commonly used materials for vacuum casting mainly cover PU resin or elastomer systems such as PMMA, PC, ABS, PA, POM, PP, silicone and soft rubber. When customers choose vacuum casting materials, they usually need to simultaneously evaluate transparency, appearance and texture, toughness, temperature resistance, wear resistance, assembly feel, post-processing methods and small batch delivery costs.

XProdLab will combine the product use, appearance grade, structural load, usage environment, target quantity and whether the texture needs to be close to that of injection molded parts to assist customers in selecting vacuum casting material solutions that are more suitable for appearance samples, functional verification parts, market test parts and low-volume pilot production of 10-200 pieces.

PMMA

PMMA (acrylic effect resin) is suitable for customers to verify transparent appearance, high-gloss surface and display-level visual effects in vacuum casting. It can be used for lampshades, light guide windows, panels, transparent shells and appearance samples. Through high-quality master mold, polishing and dyeing treatments, the light transmission and surface performance close to that of acrylic injection molded parts can be obtained.

PMMA is a common choice among vacuum casting materials if the project prioritizes transparency, visual presentation, and low-volume market validation. If the parts require higher impact resistance, snap-in toughness or long-term heat resistance, it is recommended to also evaluate PC, ABS, PA or injection molding engineering material options.

Core Competencies|Engineering-grade vacuum casting capabilities

XProdLab vacuum casting covers drawing review, DFM evaluation, master pattern production, silicone mold making, PU resin casting, finishing and low-volume delivery. Engineers plan the process around part use, material properties, appearance grade, assembly needs and delivery targets.

  1. Automatically parse 2D/3D drawings

Supports commonly used 2D/3D drawing files such as STEP, IGES, STL, DWG, DXF, etc. to quickly identify part size, wall thickness, hole location, undercut, assembly surface and appearance surface requirements. Engineering data will be used to determine the master mold production method, silicone mold parting, gate exhaust, post-processing difficulty and vacuum casting quotation, reducing the communication cost of customers repeatedly supplementing information.

  2. Vacuum casting process evaluation (DFM)

Evaluate parting lines, demoulding directions, gate runners, exhaust locations, thin-walled structures, transparent parts bubbles, shrinkage deformation and chipping risks before production, and provide manufacturability recommendations. Customers can discover design problems before mold opening or batch copying, reduce the probability of vacuum casting rework, and improve the success rate of one-time delivery of appearance samples and functional verification parts.

  3. Material plan and multi-version quotation

According to the appearance display, structural assembly, transparency, toughness, temperature resistance, softness and hardness and small batch quantity requirements, matching PMMA, PC, ABS, PA, POM, PP, silicone, soft rubber and other composite molding material systems. Quotation plans for different materials, appearance grades, post-processing and delivery time combinations can be provided at the same time to facilitate customers to compare costs, performance and delivery times.

  4. Engineer review + appearance quality control

Engineers will review the quality of the master mold, the silicone mold plan, pouring parameters, curing rhythm and appearance post-processing requirements, focusing on controlling bubbles, caps, chromatic aberration, shrinkage, deformation and surface defects. For display parts, transparent parts and assembly parts, we will conduct appearance inspection and batch consistency management according to project requirements to improve customer acceptance efficiency.

  5. Appearance and assembly effect close to injection molding

Through high-quality master molds, silicone molds and vacuum casting processes, the structural details, appearance texture and assembly feel of the parts are restored, and can be combined with post-processing such as spraying, sandblasting, polishing, silk screen printing, and dyeing. It is suitable for customers to use for prototype display, user testing, channel review, market verification and small batch delivery before injection molding mass production.
